Unforgiveness lives in the body as a rehearsal loop: the scene replays, the heart rate climbs, the argument is re-won. The loop is exhausting and it is not evidence of weakness.

Forgiveness is the decision to stop collecting a debt. Reconciliation is a separate process requiring the other person's participation and changed behaviour. Someone can be genuinely forgiven and still not be safe to be near.

Scripture

Scripture

Quotations are verbatim from the King James Version (public domain). Context and application below each passage are Ruach's own educational commentary, not Scripture.

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Ruach context: instructions to a community learning to live together, listed alongside patience and kindness.

Ruach application: the passage addresses release of grievance. It does not instruct the removal of consequences or the restoration of trust.

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Ruach context: the closing line of a passage that begins by permitting anger and limiting its duration.

Ruach application: kindness and honesty are placed together. Neither cancels the other.

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Ruach context: part of a list of practical instructions for life in community under hostile conditions.

Ruach application: two qualifiers are built in — 'if it be possible' and 'as much as lieth in you'. Peace is not made your sole responsibility.

Regulate

Regulation

Run the practice here, without leaving the study.

Extended-exhale breathing

A longer exhale than inhale nudges the body toward the parasympathetic side of the nervous system.

02:00
  1. 1.Sit or stand with your feet flat and your jaw unclenched.
  2. 2.Breathe in through your nose for four counts.
  3. 3.Let the exhale be twice as long as the inhale.
  4. 4.Repeat until your shoulders drop on their own.

Respond

Response

Take this into real life. Forgiveness is usually decided once and then re-decided when the memory returns.

Your reflection

Entries save to your own I AM Resonance account. Only you can read them, and they never appear on public Ruach pages.
